Stone Mountain Lodge Wedding

There are only a select few wedding venues in Lyons that are worth mentioning, and it just so happens that Stone Mountain Lodge is on the top of that list. When you first pull into the parking lot, i’ll admit, it doesn’t look like you’re in the right place at first because it doesn’t exactly scream “wedding venue”. However after you park and take a look around you start to discover how great this place actually is. It has a couple cabins nestled up in the hills and trees behind the main building where typically the bride and groom would stay and get ready. On the side of the hotel is where the wedding venue is. There’s a beautiful pond and lots of trees which lend to amazing photos, and a garden area where the reception and cocktail hour is held. It feels very intimate and private despite being so close to the town of Lyons. The Stone Mountain Lodge Wedding I got to photograph this  was that of Kaci and Dillon, who were so much fun to spend the day with. Kaci and Dillon decided to go with the non-traditional approach of having a first-look before the wedding ceremony. What made it even more non-traditional, was when Kaci decided to “ice” the groom when he turned around and saw her for the first time, which was quite humorous. For those that don’t know what it means to “ice” someone, it consists of generally hiding a Smirnoff Ice (or similar) somewhere an unsuspecting person will find it, and then is required to chug it. After the first look and quite the entertaining “ice-ing”, Kaci and Dillon took photos with me around the venue and then we proceeded to the ceremony. The ceremony site sits in a grassy area against a steep cliff and is quite beautiful. The reception area takes place next to the large pond in a big white tent where Kaci and Dillon spent the rest of the evening dancing, cutting their cake and enjoying time with the family.
