WEDDING AND PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT
I often get asked what equipment I bring with me on all of my photoshoots. Below is a list of the gear I use, as well as a brief description of each item. If you are going to buy any of this gear, I would be very appreciative if you would consider purchasing through my affiliate links below.
(last updated June 2022)
CAMERAS
Nikon Z9 – Excellent for low-light photography and superior autofocus. The Z9 is a huge leap forward in tech from the Z7 and Z6 series cameras.
Nikon Z7II – Very lightweight, and a great all-around full-frame camera
Nikon Z6II – Another very lightweight, and a great all-around full-frame camera
LENSES
Nikon Z 70-200mm f2.8 – I use this for about 70% of my photos.
Nikon Z 14-30mm f4 – I love wide lenses like this for unique perspectives
Nikon 85mm Z 85mm f1.8 – Every camera bag deserves a nice prime for portraits. It’s sharp, and has great bokeh.
Nikon 24-70mm f4 – Most people prefer the 24-70mm as it’s a very versatile lens. I personally use the f4 version, as mine doesn’t see much use, but the 2.8 version is best if you use this focal range a lot.

Nikon 60mm f2.8 D Macro – An old Nikon lens I just specifically for ring shots at weddings
LIGHTING EQUIPMENT
Geekoto GT200 – These are the primary flash units that I use during all my photoshoots. They’re portable, powerful, and have receivers built-in to the unit. A transmitter is needed for these to communicate with your camera. I carry three of these with me at all times during my weddings and other events. If you’re an Flashpoint/Godox user, these are compatible with those triggers as well.

Geekoto NLX280 – These are great for the studio and more controlled photo situations. The quality of light is superb, and they come with a Bowens mount making them versatile and compatible with many different flash accessories and modifiers.

Flashpoint Zoom Mini R2 Flash – These are small units that are great when a bit of on-camera flash is needed, without the weight of a large traditional speedlight. I will put this on my camera if I need a bit of additional fill-flash during wedding receptions or events.
FlashPoint R2 Pro Transmitter – These are easy to use and are compatible with the Geekoto GT and NLX flash units. You will need one of these for every camera in order to fire your flash units remotely. I carry 3 with me at all times.
Geekoto C1-Pro Flash Trigger – If you’re sticking strictly to the Geekoto system, their flash trigger is a great option.

LIGHT STANDS
Manfrotto 10004BAC Air Cushioned Stand – A traditional light stand that is durable, stackable, and reliable. I’ve noticed that the retaining collar isn’t tightened enough. There are three silver bolts on each of the tightening knobs that need to be tightened with an allen key.

CheetahStand C12 – This is an “auto stand” meaning it folds in and out automatically when you pick it up and put it down.

Savage MultiFlex – This is my go-to light stand when I’m taking photos outdoors on uneven surfaces. The legs are independently adjustable, similar to a tripod.
