Wedding Photographer Questions

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What style of photography do you specialize in?

I specialize in capturing connections between couples and the environment. When it comes to wedding photography, I capture the day as candidly and unobtrusively as possible, but also recognize that you may need a bit more direction and help when it comes to posing, organizing the family for portraits, or putting together a timeline. Don’t worry, I’m here to help you with all of the above.

I set myself apart by confidently guaranteeing that I can capture amazing images for you regardless of the environment, weather, or lighting conditions. Being an avid outdoorsman and nature enthusiast has helped define me as an environmental wedding photographer. I incorporate the scenery and use advanced lighting techniques to aid in the storytelling of your day and create images that are pieces of art.

How soon should we book you?

ASAP. For prime wedding dates, most couples book me an average of 8-12 months out from their event.

What do your wedding packages include?

All of my wedding, elopement and engagement photography packages include all of the keepers from your event in a private, online gallery. They are all delivered in full resolution and edited and color-corrected to ensure they look their best. I also have traditional prints, canvas prints, wedding albums, and more options available.

Why don’t you offer wedding packages less than 8 hours?

Over the years, I discovered that with shorter coverage times, my couples and I were struggling to fit in many important photographs that regularly happen during a wedding day. Because of this, the process of capturing photos almost always felt rushed which ultimately led a photography experience that could have been stronger.

As your photographer, my goal is to capture amazing photographs of your wedding day while still allowing you to relax and have fun, which is why (with the exception of elopements) my base package starts at 8 hours of coverage. It’s incredibly important that you, and all of my couples, have an amazing experience so you can treasure your images forever while still enjoying the wedding day at a relaxing pace.

Do you offer additional photographers? Is a second photographer necessary?

Yes, and a second photographer is not necessary, but never a bad idea. A second photographer allows for more photos, a variety of angles and allows me to become more creative with advanced lighting techniques and poses. This is such a frequent question, I wrote a post with my thoughts specifically on this topic which you can see here.

Do you have liability insurance?

Yes. It is important that every photographer has liability insurance, as most wedding venues require it. If you are currently searching for wedding vendors and they do not have insurance, you could personally be liable if an incident were to occur caused by that vendor. Please make sure your vendors have liability insurance!

How much do your packages cost?

My pricing packages vary based on photographer, wedding date, and location. To receive a price quote, please fill out the contact/availability form. This will help determine the appropriate price for your event. You can also see starting pricing options on my pricing page.

How do we book you?

I ask for a 35% retainer fee to hold the date, along with a signed photography agreement. Once I’ve received both, your date will be locked in! Sorry, but I do not put holds on dates until both have been received.

Where is your area of coverage? Do you travel?

I’m based in Estes Park and Fort Collins, CO but travel all over the country. Additionally, I’m a destination wedding photographer and travel frequently. I’ve shot weddings in multiple states and out of the country and would love to talk to you about your wedding plans no matter where they are.

We’re a bit camera shy and we’re not good at posing ourselves. Is that a problem?

Absolutely not. In fact, almost every couple that walks through our door has this same concern but never fear – I’m a professional! Because I do this full time, I’m an expert at making couples look and feel natural. We have a ton of fun on our photo sessions and this fun, relaxed style of shooting I have translates incredibly well in photographs.

Should we do a first look?

I really suggest you do. For a more detailed answer on why I recommend First Looks, feel free to read our post on first looks.

What happens if you’re unable to attend due to illness or other factors beyond your control?

If in the unlikely chance that I’m unable to attend on the day of the wedding, I will immediately find a professional replacement photographer from our trusted list of associates.

How long can I expect to receive my images after the wedding?

Images typically take 6-8 weeks to be delivered, although I make every effort to deliver them sooner.

Do you offer albums or prints?

Yes, I offer flush-mount leather or cloth-bound albums, prints, canvas prints, and more. Learn more about those here.

Do you offer videography services as well?

I do not, but I have a list of videographers I can refer you to that I regularly work with.

How do you accept payment?

I make payments incredibly easy to save you time. My invoicing is done online and you can pay with credit card, check or cash.

What kind of equipment do you use? Do you have back-up equipment in the case of a malfunction?

I shoot with Nikon cameras and use some of the best photography equipment in the industry. Specifically, my cameras of choice are the Nikon Z9 & Z8 with a variety of professional lenses. In addition, I bring a variety of lighting equipment including speed lights and off-camera strobes. In the event of a malfunction, backup cameras, lenses, and speed lights are always brought to the event.
