We’ve mentioned this a few times, but I just want to reiterate how much we LOVE destination weddings. Anna and Juan are from Northern Colorado, and when I expressed interest in joining them on the East Coast for their Charleston Harbor Resort wedding, they were all over it! I absolutely love traveling for weddings and this South Carolina wedding was no exception. Their wedding was hosted in such a neat, lively area and the venue had amazing views of the Charleston Marina.

I flew in Friday afternoon from Denver and prepared my gear for the wedding the next morning. I started photos in Anna’s bridal suite capturing shots of her and her bridesmaids getting ready. Once that was finished, we headed out to one of the nearby docks to get photos of all them, and then I headed inside with the guys. One of the funniest and most memorable moments from this wedding was watching all of the groomsmen struggle to tie a bowtie. Admittedly, I don’t know how to tie one either (ask me to pin a boutonnière or tie a double Windsor and I got you) so I wasn’t much of help, so we headed down to the pool to take photos with un-tied bow ties. The great moment happened when some random guy drinking beer in the resort hot tub came up and offered to tie the ties for all guys. That was definitely a hilarious moment and definitely picture-worthy. After a few more photos (and some beers) everyone lined up for the ceremony which took place on the lawn by the pool.

Once the ceremony finished, I pulled the bridal party out for a few additional shots and grabbed some photos of Anna and Juan with the gorgeous stormy skies coming in. Using my off-camera lighting techniques I was able to underexpose the back skies to create nice separation. As the sun set behind the horizon, we headed up into the reception area which had amazing views of the marina as well as some old US battleships which provided a great backdrop for the rest of the evening’s festivities. We got through the speeches, dances, cake cutting and the celebration and sent our bride and groom off with a proper sparkler send off.
