Dicken’s Opera House Wedding

Most people think of Colorado being the place for outdoor weddings, mountain scenes, and tall evergreens. But hidden in downtown Longmont is an old historic venue that proves Colorado has some amazing heritage, culture and class. The Dicken’s Opera House was built in 1881, it was constructed in an emerging Colorado in an attempt to bring society and culture to the area. It continued to be a great venue of community importance and theater until it stood abandoned in the late 70’s. It reopened in 1986 with a restaurant on the first floor, and an auditorium on the second. Today, it continues to be a popular music and theater venue, as well as an event center for weddings and other events.
For this wedding, Mike and Jessica decided to host their ceremony and reception at the Dicken’s. After capturing some getting-ready moments at a local hotel, we then headed to the venue to set up their “first look”. The Opera House has a satisfying, photo-friendly alley way in the back of the venue, and with the combination of perfect, soft light and the urban architecture it was the perfect place for Jessica to reveal the morning’s hard work of getting ready to Mike.
The ceremony took place in the theater under stage lighting. With almost 150 guests, the auditorium was filled up nicely. After close family and friends joined Mike and Jessica on stage as they shared their vows and first kiss, the set up for the reception began. Tables were moved in around the dance floor where the rest of the evening’s festivities began. Probably one of my favorite moments from this wedding was when Mike danced with his daughter on stage. It was such an emotional moment for the whole family and I’m really glad I was there to capture it.
