Steamboat Springs is not only one of the most gorgeous mountain towns in Colorado, it is the perfect place to get married in the late Summer. The weather is mild, the leaves are starting to change color and you can’t beat those mountain views. For this wedding adventure Jake and Crystal asked me to capture their love story at the Steamboat Grand. Crystal started her day at the Grand in one of their suites over-looking the ski lifts – the view was spectacular and I had to take a photo. As she was getting ready, I captured some details on her wedding dress. Jake gathered the shells on her sash from their trip in Greece which he had custom made for her dress, and Crystal found some blue shoes to match the sash perfectly. Meanwhile, Jake got ready at his parents’ house where they hosted their ceremony. After Crystal got her dress on, we headed back to catch up with Jake for their first look. His parents’ backyard is absolutely gorgeous, and I have to admit I’m quite jealous of the enormous aspens they have growing on their property.
We then proceeded to commence the ceremony in their backyard. The borrowed a bunch of hay bails from a local farmer to use as seats for the guests, built an awning out of aspen branches and decorated the backyard with a variety of fresh flowers and hand-made decorations. After the ceremony we headed back to the Grand to enjoy the reception. Crystal, Jake and their wedding party pulled up in his dad’s classic Toyota Land Cruiser which was a must that they incorporated into their photos. Being a Toyota fan myself, I loved seeing this awesome restored truck and taking some shots of Crystal and Jake with it. Before we headed back into the tent for the food, speeches and dancing, the sun was starting to go down over the mountains so I quickly grabbed Crystal and Jake to capture some last minute photos of them. As you can see from the shots, the sun was in the perfect spot to capture some romantic photos. Our videographer Chris got an absolutely stunning 360 shot from the top of this ridge which you can see towards the end of the video (I’ll post it below).
Besides being in this stunning location, one of my favorite parts of this wedding was the attention to detail Crystal and Jake put in their wedding details. Almost all of the decorations they made themselves or had help making, and it really tied their big day together. I can’t wait to capture another Steamboat Grand Wedding. Hopefully I’ll be able to visit it again soon!
