The Mishawaka is a beautiful river-side music venue that sits in the heart of the Poudre Canyon near Fort Collins. For years it has hosted some extremely talented artists and is a popular place for locals to see a wide variety of musicians. The “Mish” also allows private events and as such many brides and grooms choose to host their wedding here. More often that not, the couples that choose to celebrate their marriage at this mountain venue have a strong connection with the history of the Mishawaka and have a passion for music. For their small wedding, Kevin and Melissa wanted to combine their two favorite things: music and fishing. With the Poudre River running right through the venue, there was no better place in their eyes to celebrate with family and friends!

Melissa told us that one of her biggest splurges for her wedding were the flowers and they were an excellent addition to the decor. They were provided by Lace and Lillies and featured a variety of colorful summertime flora to compliment the dresses of the bridesmaids. Additionally, the groomsmen had hand-tied fly-fishing flies incorporated into their boutonnieres which allowed the men to have some colorful flair as well. On their first date years ago, Kevin wore a pair of old, dirty Converse which Melissa teased him about. It only seemed fitting that he wore the same shoes for their wedding and had the bride and wedding party participate as well.

The ceremony was held right in front of the stage with the river and cliffs of the canyon in the background. For their cocktail hour Kevin and Melissa did something unique, which was hiring a team of fly-fishing guides to take their guests out on the river. This was definitely something we’ve never seen before at a wedding and was so cool! After cocktail hour, I snuck the couple out for a couple of photos by the river before dinner. For their reception, the bride and groom hired one of their favorite local bands to perform on stage which was the perfect end to the evening.
